The Riyadh National Zoo is the largest zoo in the Saudi Arabian country. The Riyadh National Zoo is located in the capital city itself and covers an area of 55 acres. The Riyadh National Zoo was established in the year 1957 and after refurbishing in the year 1987, was opened to the general public.
The zoo initially comprised animals, which were gifted by members of the ruling dynasty of Saudi Arabia. Later on, the area was increased so that the animals could enjoy themselves in the wider and open space.
At present, the National Zoo of Riyadh offers an astounding collection of more than 40 species of animals and birds. There are more than 1,400 animals including leopards, monkeys, lions, hyenas, vultures, kangaroos, seals, elephants, camels, reptiles, crocodiles, rhinoceros, snakes, gazelles and others, which are housed in this zoo.
The National Zoo in Riyadh is open on all days of the week from 9 am to 6 pm, except on Saturdays. There are certain restrictions for entering the Riyadh National Zoo. For instance, children should be accompanied by parents and families are not allowed to enter the zoo together.
