First take a mortar and pestle, and grind the chili peppers, cumin and shortening in it. Now take a frying pan and pour the yogurt in it. Add salt to it. Stir the mixture on low flame. After the yogurt gets boiled, add the ground mixture to it and mix them properly.
Now wash the cracked wheat with water and after draining the water properly, add the cracked wheat to the yogurt mixture in the frying pan. Now cover the pan and allow the mixture to simmer over low flame for three hours.
After three hours, remove the pan from the cooking gas. Beat the mixture with a wooden spoon properly and put it in a blender. Blend the mixture properly and then pour the wheat and yogurt mixture in a deep serving dish. Make a depression in the center and pour the melted butter in it. Gereesh Bel Laban tastes the best when served hot.
