Bassal Mahshy



Bassal Mahshy is a popular Saudi Arabia recipe. The basic ingredients required for cooking this recipe are lamb or beef and onions. This recipe of Saudi Arabia is also known as stuffed onions. This non vegetarian dish is very tasty and can be easily cooked at home.
Main Ingredients for Bassal Mahshy
  • Large onions - 1 pound
  • Rice - ½ cup
  • Lamb or ground beef - ⅓ pound
  • Crushed garlic - 4 cloves
  • Grated onion - 1 large
  • Tamarind - ¾ cup
  • Corn oil - 3 table spoons
  • Salt - ½ teaspoon
  • Hot water - 4 cups
  • Ground black pepper - ½ teaspoon
To prepare Bassal Mahshy, the onions are to be peeled and then they are to be boiled till they are well cooked. The water has to be strained from the onions in a colander. It has to be kept aside till it cools down. On the other hand, tamarind is to be soaked in hot water.

After done with the onions and tamarind, the stuffing for is to be prepared. First rice has to be washed and the extra water has to be drained. Then ground meat is to be added with rice. To this, rice and meat, garlic and grated onion along with a table spoon of oil, pepper and salt according to taste are to be added. All these ingredients have to be mixed well.

Then the centers of the large boiled onions are to be removed. The already prepared stuffing has to be put into the onions. Lastly, tamarind has to be spread over the onions after straining the water. The stuffed onions are then to be cooked in a pan.
