King of Saudi Arabia

The king of Saudi Arabia represents the head of nation and is officially recognized as the most powerful person in the country, who rules over the Monarchy system as well as the House of Saud. He is hence called the custodian of the two Holy mosques. These mosques include the Masjid al haram in Mecca and Medin'a Masjid al Nawabi.

The first among the kings of Saudi Arabia was Abdul Aziz, who came to power in 1932. He was the founder of the nation of Saudi Arabia. Since then, it has been his sons, who have been crowned the kings of Saudi Arabia. They include King Saud, King Faisal, King Khalid, King Fahd and King Abdullah.

The Monarchical system in Saudi Arabia does not proceed in a linear fashion from father to son and to the subsequent grandson. Also, there are various lateral posts in the monarchical system such as the post of Crown Prince, the post of Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. As such the rule of claim to the post is not very well defined.

The present king of Saudi Arabia is King Abdullah and the crown prince is Price Sultan. Prince Sultan is a half brother to King Abdullah, which means that he will succeed the throne of Saudi Arabia after the death of the present king.
