Muslims consider
Makkah to be the holiest of all cities in the entire world. Prophet Mohammad was born in this city. This was the city where he was enlightened by God's message. He returned to
this holy city of Makkah from Madinah in 622 AD. This city bears huge religious importance to the Muslims, where two million Muslims from all over the world congregate to perform Hajj every year. Muslims consider it as a very holy occasion for visiting Makkah. The pilgrims to Makkah during Hajj are known as Hajjis. Muslims around the world offer prayers turning towards the city of Makkah, five times a day.
Makkah is situated 73 kilometers towards the east of Jiddah. There are seven circumambulations that all pilgrims to Hajj must perform at the holy mosque in Makkah. It starts from a black stone in the corner of Kaba, which is housed in the holy mosque at Makkah.
The holy city of Makkah is well connected with the entire world. There is an international airport at Jiddah, which has flights to and from a large number of cities in different countries of the world. Besides, Makkah is also connected to the world via a seaport at Jiddah.
