The
San Marino political parties have always contributed in the constructive growth of San Marino. The Government of San Marino runs on the system of Unitary Multi-party Republic. Because of the thin population of San Marino and a big number of political parties in San Marino, single party majority has rarely been achieved in San Marino. The 60 member Legislature of San Marino runs on the coalition of the political parties of San Marino. Each of the
San Marino political parties plays a significant role in the running of the Government.

In the last parliamentary election of San Marino held in 2006, Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party bagged the maximum number of seats, which added up to 21. The Party of Socialists and Democrats followed them with 20 seats. The other San Marino political parties, in spite of bagging lesser number of seats, held a position of importance in the decisions of the San Marino Government. The members of different political parties of San Marino play a major role in electing the two Captains Regent who heads the San Marino Government.
