Salealua Lava Fields



Salealua lava fields are situated in Savaii. Volcanic eruption took place in the lava fields of Salealua.

While visiting Samoa you would definitely enjoy one of the Samoa attractions Salealua lava fields. Between the year 1905 and 1911 a lava flow from Matavanu ruined Salealua village. You can go with a guide for watching the remains of this village which were demolished by a lava flow from Mount Matavanu. The lava fields at Salealua are worth watching.

Salealua lava fields are found in the north east coast of Samoa. The volcanic action is approximated to happen every 150 years. The last volcanic action was noticed between the year 1905 and 1911 when the volcanic crater occurred at Mount Matavanu which poured forth millions of lava across the prolific grounds of north east coast as a result of which Saleaula village got buried in it.

Savai island is situated 18 km northeast over the the Apolima Strait from Upolu. This island comprises of a monolithic shield volcano as a result of which it attains a height of 1,858 meter which is the highest point in the whole archipelago.

Along with the lava fields in Salealua you could also visit Virgin's Grave and the remains of various stone churches in Salealua village. While visiting Samoa you should not miss watching the devastating lava fields of Salealua.
