Dog of Samoa, especially the population of the street
dog of Samoa is on the rise .This has resulted in giving rise to various problems for the natives as well as tourists who become victims of dog bite. There is a growing concern for the ensuing health hazards and other social welfare issues.
For the
dog of Samoa, The International Fund for Animal Welfare's or IFAW came out in aid of the APS or the Animal Protection Society at Apia in Samoa and endowed them with USD $ 10,000 pet rescue grant. The APS operates from Avele in Apia and provides domestic and stray
dogs of Samoa with care and treatment in its veterinary clinic. It also runs four Mobile Veterinary Clinics or MVCs which travel to far flung areas and provide veterinary aid like
- Pet sterilizations
- Treatments for worms, parasites and other diseases.
- Production and distribution of animal care educational stuff.
Animal ownership education is one of the major undertakings of the APS in its work for the
dog of Samoa and is carried out simultaneously by the mobile clinics and the fixed units where veterinary surgical procedures are executed.
IFAW s attempt to control and to an extent eradicate the various problems ensuing out of the overpopulation of
Dog of Samoa and its emphasis on different programs of treatment and the consequential setting up of mobile clinics will go a long way to solve various problems related to the
dog of Samoa.
