Saint Lucia History dates back to 1502, when Columbus had viewed the island. However Saint Lucia remained uncolonized until the mid seventeenth century though the British started taking attempts since 1605. St Lucia, located in the center of the Windward island chain and nestled between Martinique to the north and St .Vincent and the Grenadines to the south, is the second largest island of the British Lesser Antilles.
History of Saint Lucia involves the Caribs, who were the initial inhabitants of the island. The first successful approach that was made to these Caribs, was made by the King of France in the year of 1642. Thus by 1660, the permanent settlement of the French was established in Saint Lucia. The peace was disrupted with the military conflicts among the Dutch, British, Spanish and the French colonists. Saint Lucia History primarily traces French and British supremacies in this Caribbean island.
Historical Facts of Saint Lucia reveal that the island constantly kept on changing alliance with the French and the British. However by the 20th century Saint Lucia was a self administered island. The year of 1979 is the most important year in Saint Lucia History, as the island finally got independence from the British in this year.
