European Invasion of Saint Lucia started within the period of 1492 to 1592, when the British had arrived in the island. European Invasion in Saint Lucia started with the Spain's early exploration of the Caribbean islands. The English, Dutch and the French, who had tried to establish trading outposts in this island in the 17th century, had faced great opposition from the Caribs, the owner of the island.
History of Saint Lucia reveals that the first Saint Lucia European Invasion had occurred finally in the 1600, when the first European camp was started by the Dutch at Vieux Fort. The French had officially claimed the island in the year of 1639. However the Europeans had started ruling the island by the year of 1651.
By the 1700s, the English had realized that Saint Lucia would be ideal for their sugar industry, which is why by the year of 1765, the European sugar industry was developed in Saint Lucia. The 1800s saw France ceding Saint Lucia, which happened in the year of 1815. In the year of 1838, Saint Lucia was incorporated into the British Windward Islands Administration, headquartered in Barbados. European Invasion of Saint Lucia came to an end in the 1900s, when finally Saint Lucia got independence.
