Parc National des Volcans is the most popular national Parc which is located on the far northwestern part of Rwanda. The Parc National des Volcans lies on the vertical slope of the volcanic Virunga mountain range, which comprise of 5 volcanic mountains. Parc National des Volcans is the home of the endangered species of gorillas and every year thousand of forest lover tourists visit this Parc for a view of this rare species.
The Parc National des Volcans cover an area of 13,000 hectares and was designated the status of a national Parc in the year 1925. This Parc protects the Rwandan portion of the Virunga Mountains. The Parc National des Volcans is located between 3474m and 4507m altitude. The Parc is home to more than half of the surviving gorillas. The Parc National des Volcans is the best place to visit the four habituated groups of gorilla families comprising of 7 to 37 members in each of them. Every year thousands of tourists come and visit this Parc to see these gorilla families. Special permits need to be obtained to catch a glimpse of these gorilla families.
Apart from the gorillas, Parc National des Volcans also has a rich forest cover, many colorful birds, golden monkeys and huge number of elephants and buffaloes who reside in this forest.
The interesting tourist activities in Parc National des Volcans include gorilla trekking, bird-watching and nature walks through the natural forests. There are several luxurious as well as cheap hotels which are located close to the Parc National des Volcans.
