The Rwanda film festival is a very popular and big event for the Rwandan people. Every year the members of the governing bodies of the Rwanda Cinema Centre organize the film festival. In the year 2008, the film festival is supposed to take place between 16th to 30th March. The Rwandan films like “Hotel Rwanda” and “Shooting Dogs” have earned accolades from every corner of the Rwandan film festival. The film ‘Shooting Dogs’ has not lost its popularity over the years. It is a Rwandan film that is based on the 10 years back genocide within the Rwanda territory.
The movie narrates the story of the 800,000 innocents who lost their lives in the mass killing of Rwanda. The “Hotel Rwanda” is another great film which is mainly based in a historical drama. Don Cheadle is the main character in this Rwandan film. This Rwandan film is based on the violence that took place during the Rwandan genocide. The film “Hotel Rwanda” showed the mass killing that took place during the war between the Hutus and the Tutsis.
In this film Don Cheadle, a Hutu, managed to save his Sabena hotel which later on becomes the safe haven for the refugees. This most popular Rwandan film was released on 11 September, 2004. The director of the film Terry George has also produced the film. Hotel Rwanda also bagged three Oscar awards. The “Shooting Dogs” was shot in the places where the actual incident took place. It was directed by Michael Carton, while Hurt and Hugh Dancy played the major roles. The film festival of Rwanda projects the brilliant works of the Rwandan youths and contributes in the development of the society. It serves as a platform for the budding Rwandan directors to showcase their creation.
