Rwanda Statistics



Rwanda is a small African country surrounded by four other countries. There is Tanzania to the east, Democratic Republic of Congo to its west, Uganda to its north and Burundi to the south. The country is officially called The Republic of Rwanda. Kigali City is the capital of the country. The nation celebrates its independence on July 1st. There are three major religions in the country- Roman Catholics, Protestants and Islamic. Kinyarwanda is the local language which is used as their national national language. They also use French and English as the official language of communication. Rwanda, also known as “The Land of Thousand Hills”, is divided in four provinces and Kigali City. The provinces are known as:
  • Eastern Province
  • Western Province
  • Northern Province
  • Southern Province
  • Kigali City
The country has a surface area of 26,340 kilometers. Rwanda is 1000 – 4500 meters above the sea level. The population of the country has touched 8 million. Among them the rural population is 83.1% where as the urban population is only 16.9%. The average temperature of the country is 24.6 to 27.6 degree Celsius. August and September are considered as the hottest months and March to May and October to November are the rainy season. There are six major lakes in the country that work as the source of water. They are Lake Muhazi, Lake Ihema, Lake Mugesera, Lake Kivu and Lake Ruhondo. The highest point of the country is the Karisimbi Volcano which is 4,507 meters above the sea level. The 88.6% of the population is working in the agricultural sector where as only 3.35 of the population are specialized workers.

Population growth rate of the country is 2.8%. The infant mortality rate is 10.7%. the average age of the population is 41.93 years. The average lifespan of a woman(42.4 years) in Rwanda is higher than a man(41.49 years).
