Rwanda Genocide Statistics

The Rwanda genocide statistics is a stain on human civilization. It is even more shocking to know, according to the Rwanda genocide statistics, that this racial extermination continued till early and mid 1994. The first Rwanda genocide took place long back in 1959, and from then on it became a habit to kill the a particular tribe called Batusti. When we look at the history of Rwanda we find that the seed of genocide was always there from the early years. It just grew bigger and uglier with time. The statics provided by the Rwanda government gives us a more clear as well as horrible picture of that systematic racial killing.

The pre-colonial Rwanda was ruled by the Tutsi kings. The king divided the power among three groups who were known as Cattle chiefs, Land chiefs and Military chiefs. The Batutsi tribe was the king's favorite for the posts of Military chiefs and Cattle chiefs. So their difference with the rest of the population was gradually increasing. Later on, when Rwanda was a Belgian colony, the Batusti tribe was again the favorite of Belgian authorities for various political and practical reasons. It was the time when two political parties emerged in Rwanda demanding independence. They were called Union Nationale Rwanda and PARMEHUTU. The first mass killing of the Batusti tribe were caused by the PARMEHUTU in 1959 and from then on, the Batusti people were targeted.

In April 1994, a group of people from Hutu tribe initiated a movement of blood bath for about 100 days against the Batustis. The mass killing ended with a loss of 500,000 people. This genocide affected the country in many ways. Firstly, the agricultural sector was reduced to a half of what was their production prior to the genocide. As a result, the commerce received a severe blow. Even the tourism sector was completely laid off. There are more than 125,000 prisoners in Rwanda charged with the mass killing. 96% children in Rwanda has experienced the mass killing and 80% of them have lost at least one of their family members. This Rwanda genocide statistics along with many other reports on this mass killing prove how difficult life is for those who survived.
