Rwanda History is a story of the struggle that finally led to the coming up of an independent state. Originally Rwanda was inhabited by the Twa followed by the Hutus and the Tutsis. Among these the Tutsis were finally able to establish an independent state ruled by them.
Rwanda History in 1960 saw a change in the political structure with the Hutu political party winning the election.
Following this, strained relation continued between the Tutsis and Hutus. Finally in the year 1973, Maj. Gen. Junvenal Habyarimana replaced the existing first President Kayibanda. A new constitution came to be adopted in the year 1978. In 1994 widespread civil unrest took place with the death of Habyarimana and Burundi's President. This was followed by the killing of the Tutsis and moderate Hutus by the Hutus and the Rwandan soldiers and Hutus.
Chaotic condition continued to prevail in Rwanda after this for many years. The 2003
Presidential election was won by Paul Kagame.
