Rwanda is a landlocked country situated in Central Africa. The only means of their subsistence is agriculture. The country has low natural resources with limited number of industries. In the Kigali province, the Self-Help- Shoes factory has provided employment to the Rwandan youths for making different types of Rwandan shoes. This organization has a number of men and women who are being trained in leather work for designing various types of shoes. The country is so poor that most of the people in Rwanda do not have shoes.
In the Nyamirambo district of Kigali province, is the location of the shoe factory of Rwanda which is most popularly known as Association des Artisans Cordonniers de Gacuriro (ACOGA).The members are mostly engaged in shoe repairing and designing. After the completion of their training, the members started to collect funds for the machines and other materials needed for their trade. With their effort they were able to rent a workshop and with their popularity in designing Rwandan shoes customers started coming to their shoe factory.
The Rwandan Self-Help- Shoes factory has grown over the years for getting new source of financial opportunities. Different types of Rwandan shoes like thumbnail, medium, large are available in the market. The Butare district of Rwanda has many children’s footwear shops. The president of the shoemaker association of Rwanda ‘Duhaguroke”is Kabalira Cyprion. This Rwanda shoe making organization was started before the war. The Rwanda shoe makers are now able to feed themselves without any sort of inconvenience.
