Rwanda Economy is agricultural in nature with a high percentage of population engaged in subsistence agriculture. Rwanda is a landlocked country as a result of which it has limited access to foreign markets. This has in a major way affected the economic development of the country. The genocide that took place in 1994 too has a negative impact in the economy.
Rwanda Economy today has witnessed growth with the success of Rwanda rebuilding measures and projects that have been taken up.
The principal food crops of Rwanda are sorghum pulses, banana while the major cash crops include tea ans coffee. Industrial development in Rwanda is limited and includes small scale industries. Rwanda imports consist of foodstuffs, motor vehicles, machinery while its export includes coffee, tea,hides and pyrethrum.
Rwanda Economy has trade relations with countries like Belgium, Germany, Kenya.
With the aim of achieving balanced economic growth, Rwanda has adopted the policy of liberalization and privatization.
