The Nyagatare is another important district among the seven districts of the Rwanda. It was formerly the capital of the Umutara region. It also shares its name with the main city of the district. Nyagatare enjoys a good position on the grassy flat plains along with the small hills. Nyagatare district also covers the mountainous region of the Southern Uganda. The district has a large number of cattle.
The Nyagatare district experience higher temperature during the daytime which is not normal in the other districts of the eastern province of Rwanda. Situated at the near end of a 12km goad, the Nyagatare city has developed considerably over the years. This city has given shelter to the refugees of Uganda. The Nyagatare city is much developed from the other parts of Rwanda. It provides multiple facilities to the Rwandan people, like post office, BCDI, Rwandan Bank and many more.
The recent outbreak of Cholera has claimed many lives in the Nyagatare district along with 390 infected. The Red Cross has taken up the matter seriously to help the cholera victims. The people of Nyagatare district also face similar health problems like the other districts in Rwanda. The spread of diseases is a deep concern for the Rwandan government and so steps are being taken for the improvement of the health sector.
Due to the spread of the diseases the foods in the Nyagatare district are also getting contaminated. Lack of good infrastructure in the health sector is one of the main concerns in the Nyagatare districts. The Nyagatare district along with the NBI (Nile Basin Initiative) has already started the construction work for the 15 systems proposed on rainwater harvesting.
