The Kayonza district is one of the seven districts of Eastern province of Rwanda. The Kayonza district covers an area of about 1,813sq km. Kayonza has a population of over 220,000. The mayor of the district is Muhororo Damas who has planned a number of projects for the betterment of the Kayonza district. In this district people suffer a lot from diseases due to scarcity of doctors and medical staffs. As other districts of Rwanda, Kayonza also needs a sumptuous amount of fund for the development of its infrastructure.
The hospitals in Kayonza have a limited number of staffs which comes around to seven or four. Recently the DIF organization has come forward to help the administration of Kayonza for the development of the district. Local revenues have been increased to about 30% with the change in tax policy. The first installment by the DIF has helped Kayonza to provide better facilities to the Kayonza denizens. If funds are being received at this pace and organizations come forward, then days are not far when Kayonza would become a developed district. The mayor of Kayonza is also hopeful that it would not need any help from the central government in the recent years, provided the district gets funds from several organizations.
The health department of Kayonza district has also implemented numerous plans for the prevention of harmful diseases like malaria, HIV, Aids and other deadly diseases. Poverty is the main reason behind the pitiable condition of the people of Kayonza. District Incentive Funds is being implemented in the various districts of Rwanda which is a step forward in the development of the districts. The director of the Twubakane Program has taken initiative in providing the DIF funds to the populace of Kayonza along with the other districts of Rwanda.
