Cyangugu



Cyangugu the city of Rwanda is also known as Ciangugu. In the period of colonial settlement Cyangugu was a province located in southwestern part of Rwanda. Cyangugu is located at the extreme end of Lake Kivu, which is one of the famous lakes of Africa. Lake Kivu is located in the northern end of the city of Cyangugu, Rwanda. Actually the lake is located between the border of Rwanda and Democratic Republic of the Congo. As per the census of 2002 the total population of Cyangugu was 19,900 approximately.

Nowadays, after its independence Cyangugu city is located in a district in the Western Province. Cyangugu is also the name of a town situated in exactly the center of the district. The total land area of Cyangugu city can be sub divided into two major areas. First one is the lakeside resort area, and the second part is Kamembe area, which is basically known as the main industrial and transport centre of the city. Kamembe is located in the more interior part of Cyangugu city. Cyangugu town also holds a prison and an airport.

Cyangugu town is situated near to a popular tourist destination that is Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is basically a national park located in the southwestern part of Rwanda. The national park in Cyangugu, Rwanda includes a total land area of approximately 970 km˛, comprises of grassland, swamps, rainforest, bamboo and bogs.
