Byumba is a
city located in the North Province, of
Rwanda. The Byumba city is located in a place which is largely hilly in nature.
Byumba town is located 60 km north of Kigali which is the current capital of Rwanda.
Byumba is located in the central part of the country of Rwanda.
During the period of colonization,
Byumba city was one of the 12 provinces of Rwanda County to have been colonized.
Byumba, the
city of Rwanda shares its border with the country of Uganda. The
Byumba city spreads over a land area of 1,796 square kilometers. According to the 2004 census of Rwanda the population of
Byumba was estimated as 1,180,522.
Byumba is also famous for holding the SOS
Children's Village. Since 1949, the SOS Children's Villages are working as the organizations to protect the rights and interests of the children. SOS Children's Village was first established by Hermann Gmeiner in Imst, Austria. The SOS Children's Village is an independent organization, working in
Byumba. It has no control of the national government. The SOS Children's Village in
