Bugesera

Bugesera is one of the most important districts of Rwanda. The country, Rwanda is mainly divided into five provinces along with the Kigali city, the capital of Rwanda. Bugesera district lies in the eastern region of Rwanda. The district covers southern portion of Kigali which is very near to the town of Nyamata. Kagera and Nyabarongo are the two main rivers of the district which faces drought quite often. There is scarcity of water in the Bugesera district and so women have to travel long distances to fetch water for their home. Kagera and Nyabarongo are the two main rivers of the district which faces drought quite often.

Cycling in Bugesera is very common among women. In the district, owning a bicycle is very necessary. Bicycle comes very handy to women because they can carry their wards in the cycle for reaching important places like hospitals, schools, market place and many other places. It is being heard that men travel in bicycles for their wedding ceremony. The landscape is not at all rugged so bicycles have become the easiest mode of communication in the Bugesera district. But the Northern Province has mountains and so bicycling is a tough job for the people over there. It was reported in a newspaper that Bugesera is the only district in Rwanda which has huge number of bicycles. No other districts in Rwanda have this kind of records in bicycles.

Recently the minister of Agriculture and Animal resources has launched an irrigation project which would cost around 10.3 billion in the Rwanda district, Bugesera. The Dappui au Development Agricole De Bugesera (PADAB) would turn out to be beneficial for the people of the district. According to Anastase Murekezi (agriculture minister) the irrigation plan would focus production of rice on the Mwesa marshland in the region of Nyamata, Myange and many other places. The project would facilitate the production of rice with the innovative technologies of irrigation. The farmers of the Bugesera district will be provided with seeds so that production of crops gets increased. This project is also to provide a huge number of employments to the youths of the Bugesera district.
