The Nutcracker is a very popular and ancient ballet of Russia. The story of this ballet has been adapted from a book titled “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” written by E.T.A. Hoffman. It is a fairy tale story about magician Drosslmeyer, Clara and her nutcracker doll and their amazing adventures in the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets.
In the year 1891, renowned choreographer Marius Petipa appointed Tchaikovsky to create the music for The Nutcracker ballet in Russia. The Nutcracker at Russia was first time staged in the year 1892 at the Mariinsky Theater which was also the home of Kirov Ballet. Within a small time span, the ballet gained worldwide popularity and traveled to numerous places across the globe.
In the year 1930, The Nutcracker was performed for the first time in Western Europe. A decade later, it was staged in America by Ballet Russe. But the first full length performance of The Nutcracker was staged by San Francisco Ballet. Since then it has become a holiday tradition and is basically performed in various countries from November to Christmas.
Due to its fairy tale background, The Nutcracker ballet of Russia founds its admirers mainly among children who enjoy it the most.
