The main Russian Federation language is Russian which is one of the most widely spoken Slavic languages and is spoken by most of the Russian population. The Russian language is the officially accepted national Russian Federation language and it is the fundamental duty of Russian citizens to promote the growth and usage of this language.
The citizens however, also have the right to use their own state languages and these languages are practiced along with the official Russian language.

Apart from the Russian language, the other commonly used languages in the Russian Federation include English, Ukrainian and Belarusian. In fact, Belarusian is one of the ethnic languages of the Russian territory and was widely used by people of earlier ages.
