Andrei Voznesensky is one of the renowned Russian writers and poets and is regarded as a living legend for his contribution towards Russian literature. He is one of the eminent poets of the post-Stalin period who has been involved in controversies time and again.
Andrei Voznesensky was born on 12 May 1933 in Moscow. His father was an engineer who was engaged in the construction of hydro-electric power station and during the Second World War, Voznesensky along with his mother was deported to Kurgan. He graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute in the year 1957 and began publishing periodicals from the age of 14. Andrei Voznesensky gained public attention from his narrative poem, “Mastera” which was written in the year 1957.
Andrei Voznesensky has emerged as one of the most significant post-Stalin liberal poet. He has been always criticized for his daring rhythms, striking metaphors, mismatched rhyme patterns, interplay of past and present and for stressing on the precarious position of the poet in society.
Andrei Voznesensky was one of the first Russian poets to accept public readings of his poems and works. He was a protégé of Boris Pasternak from a very young age. The works of Andrei Voznesensky have been published in the bilingual books, ‘An Arrow in the Wall’ and in ‘On the Edge’.
