Alexander Pushkin was a famous Russian playwright who brought the real Russian drama into existence. He was born in the year1799 in Moscow. After writing his first play Boris Gogunov in 1825, there were many writers who followed his footsteps. He chose to write on the incidents that took place in history of Russia with most of his characters being real people of Russia. Alexander Pushkin was greatly influenced by Shakespeare and wrote romantic tragedies as well.
Alexander wrote his first poem at the age of fifteen. After leaving school Pushkin lead a very hard life at St. Petersburg. For writing some seditious statements he was banished from St. Petersburg. Later on he was pardoned and allowed to return and reside in the capital. But he later realized that the Czar was not doing him any favor but instead imposing restrictions on both his personal life and his writings. He saw that his appointment at the court was just a way of reaching his beautiful wife. He was quite angry at the situation but did not have much to do. Challenging one of the admirers of his wife he fought a duel in 1837 and was killed.
Beside the drama Boris Gogunov, the two poems of Alexander Pushkin that earned him great fame and name was The Fountain of Bakhchisaray and The Captive of the Caucasus.
