The Armenians are a group of ethnic people residing in Russia since the late middle ages. There are more than 2,000,000 Armenians in Russia. Russia holds the largest Armenian population, forming the largest community in the huge Armenian diaspora.
Since three thousand years back the Armenians started to exist. They were found dwelling on the Armenian plateau stretching from eastern turkey to South Caucasus. After the Armenian kingdom of Cilicia was occupied by the Mameluks, many of the Armenians died while others fled and took shelter in different parts of Russia and the other cities of the middle east.
Some of the famous Armenians in Russia are Levon Oganezov, Eduard Abalyan, Albert Azaryan, Karine Aznavurian, Aleksander Merzanov, A.L. Kemurdjianov, Samvel Grigorian, Margaritta Simonian, Bladimir Saakian, Andrei Akopov, David Hambartsumian, Alachachachian, Frunzik Mkrtchian, Armen Gregorian and Bulat Okudjava.
