Telecommunication in Russian Federation is developing at a very fast pace with satellite
telecommunication networks that is based on geostationary and polar-orbiting satellites. As per the current statistics and economic indicators, the demand for the equipment of telecommunications and services are constantly rising in the Russian Federation.
The telecommunication analysts of Russia are expecting a considerable growth in the subscription of fixed-line, cellular and Internet within a span of ten years. That is by 2010, it has been estimated that there will be more than 26 million Internet users (18 % penetration rate), 48 million fixed lines (33 % penetration rate) and 22 million cellular subscribers (15 %penetration rate) in Russian Federation.
The Russian telecommunications market has a contrasting picture of the growth in telecom sector. The major cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg which has a vast population is comparatively well served. But outside the urban centers the distribution is not so smooth.
As per the estimates, among 145 million people in Russia, there are only 22 phone lines per 100 people. In the country there are more than six million people who are waiting for this service. about 32 million people in Russia have the fixed phone line connection out of which nearly 22 million are analog and 10 million are digital.
