Tsars of Russia

Tsars of Russia ruled the country as its emperors. They were important figures in the history of Russia. Tsars were considered the sole ruler of the country. They took the ultimate decision for the state. Ivan IV was the first ruler to receive the title of Tsar.

Tsardom in Russia started with Ivan IV. Prior to Ivan IV, Russia was under rulers like Ivan III and Vasili III. The initial career of Ivan IV as Russian Tsar was identified with success. But in the later years, he failed to prove himself an able ruler.

Tsars in Russia were assisted by many officials but the real power was vested with the Tsar. Some of the noted Tsars of Russia were Feodor, Boris Godunov, Feodor II, The False Dmitri and Vasily IV. There was no Tsar for Russia during 1610 to 1613.

The rule of Romanov Dynasty started under Mikhail Romanov, a descendant of Ivan IV. The last ruler of this dynasty was Nicholas II. The dynasty ended as the World War I started. Some of the noted Tsars of Romanov Dynasty were Alexei, Ivan V, Feodor III, Peter I, Anna, Elizabeth, Paul I, Catherine II, Aleksandr and others.

Tsardom in Russia had been glorified under the rule of Tsars of Russia, like Peter I, Aleksander I and Catherine II. But name of Ivan IV reminds a period of terror and chaos.
