Kama River

Kama River is one of the major rivers that flow in Russia in the European continent. The river is also important as a trade route of Russia. The name of the river has derived from ‘Kama’, the Hindu God of love.

The course of the Kama River

The river Kama rises in the Udmurtia region. The Kama River covers an area of around 1,805 kilometers. The Kama River is in fact a major tributary of the Volga River. After flowing through the long distance, the river merges with the Volga River in the Samara Reservoir. During the course, the Kama River crosses the regions of Perm Krai and Tatarstan.

The major source of the water of Kama River is the snowmelt water. That is why the flow of the river is increased during the summer months. On the other hand, during the winters, the water starts freezing and the flow of the river slows down.

The Tributaries of the Kama River include Vishera, Kosa, Belaya, Sylva, Vyatka and Chusovaya River. All these rivers are very lengthy.

In its entire course, the Kama River covers a lot of cities. Some of those cities that are located on the banks of the river Kama are Sarapul, Berezniki, Solikamsk, Naberezhnye Chelny and Perm.
