1995 Rugby World Cup Schedule

Schedule of the 1995 Rugby World Cup spanned for one month long from 25 May to 24 June in South Africa attracting the attention of the world through brilliant games of rugby .

The tournament had 16 participating teams which had gained the right to appear in the World Cup either through the performance in the last World Cup or by playing the Qualifying matches. The only exception was South Africa who got selected as the hosts. The 16 teams were grouped under four pools. Each of the pools contained two teams qualified on basis of earlier performance and two teams admitted through qualification rounds.

The matches for each pool were played in certain areas, either in coastal or altitudes. The games of Pool A constituting Australia Canada, South Africa and Romania were played in the Cape Town area while those of England, Western Samoa. Argentina and Italy in Group B were held in the Durban area. The Group C teams- New Zealand, Ireland, Wales and Japan played in Johannesburg and Scotland, France, Tonga and Ivory Coast traveled to Pretoria to play their Group D games.

The tournament had 32 matches and they were divided as 16 in the coastal areas and the rest half at altitudes. The matches were held in nine different stadiums in nine main cities of the country including Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Durban . The final which saw the triumph of the hosts over the Kiwis was held in the Ellis Park stadium of capital Johannesburg in presence of President Nelson Mandela .
