1987 Rugby World Cup was the inaugural meet of the Rugby World Cup with some top players who made the World Cup a special event.
The first Rugby World Cup was hosted jointly by two countries-Australia and New Zealand. Sixteen teams from almost all over the world participated in the Rugby extravaganza. The venues for the matches were the various stadiums in the two lovely countries. The final match was played at the Eden Park, Auckland between New Zealand and France where France was defeated by New Zealand.
Many top players of Rugby participated in this World Cup. On the basis of points gathered, Grant Fox of New Zealand topped the table with 126 points, followed gradually by Michael Lynagh of Australia (82 points), Gavin Hastings of Scotland (62), Didier Camberabero of France (53), Jonathan Webb of England (43 ), Guy Laporte of France (42), Paul Thorburn of Wales (37), Michael Kiernan of Ireland (36), Severo Koroduadua of Fiji (35), Hugo Porta of Argentina (33), Gareth Rees Canada (26), Martinus Grobler of Zimbabwe (25), Craig Green of New Zealand (24), John Kirwan of New Zealand (24), Ray Nelson of USA (24), Dumitru Alexandru of Romania (20), Matt Burke of Australia (20), Oscar Collodo of Italy (20), John Gallagher of New Zealand (20) and Mike Harrison of England (20). Two players were charged with Red Card in the 1987 Rugby World Cup. They were David Codey of Australia and Huw Richards of Wales. All the top players of 1987 Rugby World Cup made the event a memorable one.
