One of the main rugby associations of the USA, the Texas Rugby Union is the board responsible for all the administrative works involved in the game of rugby played in the province of Texas, located in the west south-central USA, and organizing rugby matches and tournaments there.
They also develop rugby training clinics and help spreading the game among youths and ladies. The Texas Rugby Union holds several rugby tournaments and competitions in the county. These include the Premier League or the Division One League, the Division Two league and the Division Three League. The Division One League is the highest level competition involving the top clubs of the province. This competition includes four top level teams of Texas including Austin Blacks, Dallas Harlequins, HARC and Woodlands. The league fixtures include six matches for each team as they play the other teams twice, in home and away basis. The teams also play each of the six teams included in the Division Two, namely Huns, Ft. Worth, Shreveport, Baton Rogue, San Antonio and Dallas. In the League stage, the teams are awarded different points for different achievements-four for a victory, two for a draw, one bonus point for scoring four or more ties and one bonus point for losing by seven points or less than that.
Including the matches against the Division One teams, the Division Two teams, Huns, Shreveport, Ft. Worth, Baton Rogue, San Antonio and Dallas, play a total of 9 matches before a play off is arranged using the standings in all those nine matches. The points are distributed as they are done in the Division One League.
The Division Three competitions consist of three sub-leagues, divided among Northern Central and Southern parts. In each sub-league, the teams play all the other teams twice-in home and away basis. Besides, they also have to face one club each from the other two divisions in the interdivisional matches. The Northern Teams include the Ft Sill, the Denton, Diablos, Arlington and DARC while the Central consists of teams like Midland, LoneStars, UT Grads, Huns and Victoria. The southern part consists of the maximum number of teams which include Alamo City, McAllen, CC, Galveston, Bay Area and Katy.
The Disciplinary Actions followed during the matches at Texas are those of The Texas Rugby Union. Some of the rules have also been adopted from the USA Rugby Disciplinary Committee and the Western RFU Disciplinary Committee.
The Texas Province has a few rugby teams itself, for men and women separately who participate in different domestic tournaments like the Super League and the USA Rugby Premier Division. Time and again, players from the Texas team have made the state proud by finding a place in the national team. They have also made their names in the international level and it is a feat that they would try to repeat even in the years to come.
