Brian Smith is a former Australian rugby league football player and is presently the rugby league coach at the Newcastle club. He has achieved more success as a coach than he had as a player. As a player, Brian Smith had played a total of 30 first grade games. Of these, he had appeared in 13 matches for St. George in 1974 and 17 matches for the South Sydney Rabbitohs between 1975 and 1979.
Brian Smith has the experience of and senior and professional level coaching at a number of clubs. The senior clubs in which he was the coach are South Sydney and St George. He has also been the coach of several professional clubs like Illawara, St George, Parramatta and at present he is the coach of the Newcastle rugby league squad. Brian Smith is one of the most successful coaches of rugby league and is an excellent manager of players. He is equally popular among the players, supporters and the officials.
