Andy Irvine is a legendary Rugby Union player who used to don the Scottish rugby jersey at the international level. He is now the President of the Scottish Rugby Union or the SRU and is engaged in the development and spread of the sport in his native country. This famous player used to turn out in the position of a fullback and is regarded as one of the two greatest ever fullbacks for Scotland, the other being Gavin Hastings. He was born on the 16th of September in 1951 and made his international debut on the 16th of December, 1972 when he was just 21 years of age.
Andy Irvine has 51 international caps to his name and has won 19 of these matches. He has played for his country against a number of countries like England, Wales, France, Australia and others. He retired after the match against Australia on the 10th of July in 1982. Irvine is in the international Rugby Hall of Fame and is regarded as one of the best players to have taken the rugby field ever.
