Australia is one of the top teams in the world of rugby. They have won the World Cup twice (1991 and 1999) and ranks among the top three countries in the world.
The Australian team is more popularly known as the Wallabies around the world. The Australian national side did not have a jersey of their own till 1928. Till then, they used to wear the jersey of the state team in which they were playing. The only difference was that they sported an Australian Coat of Arms on their arms instead of the state logo.
Since 1928, the Australian jersey consisted of shades of yellow and green. The green was replaced by emerald green the following year. This was the jersey for the Australian national rugby team till the 1950s though minor modifications were made. In 1961, the Australian Rugby Union changed it to yellow with green hoops on the sleeves. Since then yellow has been the color of the Australian national side.
In 2005 the design was once again changed. The hoops were replaced by green panels under the sleeves and down the sides of the jersey. The greenish area is made of a special material which helps in the movement as it is stretchable.
