The density of the population of the town of Calan is 145 persons per square kilometer. Calan was regarded as a full-fledged town in the year 1961. According to the census of 2002, the population of this town was 13,318. Among these, according to nationality, there were 57 Romas, 774 Hungarians, 12,308 Romanians, and 115 Germans.
