Norway Weather


The mild and comforting Weather Norway is due to the warm North Atlantic Drift that flow all over the country especially in summers. Norway is situated in the western part of the Scandinavian Peninsula.
The Norwegian Sea, North Sea and Barents Sea surround the western part of the country. The eastern part is bordered by Russia, Sweden and Finland. An arm of the Northern Sea surrounds the southern side of Norway . The total area of Norway is approximately 323 878 sq km. with plateaus and mountains covering most of the land. Several forests are located at the North Cape, the extreme northern corner of the country.

The warming effect of the Gulf Stream along the coastal area results into the moderate condition of Weather Norway. The summers in Norway has a temperate climate whereas winters are long and freezing. In winter an Arctic type of climate prevails in the interior highlands of Norway which causes plenty of snowfall along with strong winds.

The minimum temperature in winters is approximately -5. In the western part of the country frequently heavy rainfall occurs particularly during winter. Weather Norway in summer offers bright and sunny long days. The daytime temperature rises approximately to 30ºC. Oslo, the lowland area of Norway is probably the warmest and driest part during the summer.

Due to the Half Yearly Solar Cycle, the northern part of Norway has six months of daylight and six month of night. The sun does not set between the middle of May and end of July; on the other hand the sun does not rise from the middle of November till the end of January. For this unusual special feature of Norway weather, the country has been described as the "Land of the Midnight Sun".
