Monsoonal Weather
Weather Malaysia is influenced by eight different currents of air which flows from different directions such as northeast, south and west. The arrival and retreat of these 'airstreams' give Malaysia a largely monsoonal weather.
Dry and Rainy Seasons
Malaysia situated in the South Eastern part of Asia experiences two distinct type of climate. They are Dry Season and Rainy Season. The dry season commences from the month of May that is during the time of South-West Monsoon and continues till September. The rainy season arrives at the wake of North-east Monsoons in the middle of November and continues till March.
Annual Rainfall
The annual average rainfall received by Malaysia amounts to 2,500mm. This proves that Malaysia receives heavy rainfall which is accompanied with thunder and lightening. Places like Kuala Kelawang receives 65 inches of rainfall annually while places such as Sabah and Sarawak receives 80 to 140 inches of rainfall.
Notable Weather Events
In the recent times, Weather Malaysia has experienced certain noteworthy natural disturbances. Johor Baru experienced heavy rainfall and flood 18th of April 2006. Before this on 6th April, Old Klang Road also had a similar experience. Other than these, in the recent time floods also occurred in Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu. Proper steps should be taken to avoid such incidents in the future.
