Mediterranean climate is also called the “dry summer subtropical climate”. The climate is so named as the particular region lies around the Mediterranean Sea. In this case it is Greece. This sort of climate is characterized by a weather that has dry summers and wet winters. In Greece one can find a range of micro-climates and there are variations in weather conditions, locally. The west side of the Pindus mountain range has weather that is quite humid and also has some features of maritime climate. On the eastern side there are dry and windy summers.
Types of Weather Greece :
Greece has 4 kinds of weather patterns. They are:
Dry Mediterranean : This is found in the Aegean Islands. The summer weather generally remains sunny and dry. There is hardly any precipitation and if any, it occurs as thunderstorms and showers. During the day there are hot breezes but at night it gets pleasant. Sometimes there can be heat waves. Winters are usually wet with continual rain.
Humid Mediterranean : This is experienced by western Greece and some other coastal areas. It has mild winters accompanied by inconspicuous snowfall. Rainfall is plenteous all year round and in certain coastal regions there can be 1000mm of rain in a year. Summers enjoy fairly hot weather.
Continental Mediterranean : In certain part of Greece there are very hot summers with regular thunderstorms and the winters are quite cold with generous amounts of snowfall. The difference in these summer and winter temperatures is pretty big.
Alpine Mediterranean : This sort of climate is characterized by harsh winters and cool summers and it prevalent on mountains with high altitudes.
