Weather Services


Weather Services are the joint efforts providing weather, climatic and hydrologic forecasting and warnings for the state and its neighboring oceans and other water bodies. The main aim of these Weather Services is to protect life and property. It can only be done with the joint effort of several national and regional service centres.

Mankind has a direct link with weather. Any kind of climatic alteration greatly influences our day to day life. Thus, weather forecasting is an integrated part of our daily life. The science and technology application necessary for predicting the condition of the atmosphere for a particular place and time is in one word known as weather forecast.

There are several Weather Services located in the major cities throughout the world.

National Meteorological & Hydrological Services (NMHS) :

NHMSs provide weather forecast, weather observation and all other climatological information for some selected cities all over the world. Official weather observations of that respective country are also done by the NHMS.








National Weather Service (NWS):

National Weather Service is a part of the NOAA which is a United States government agency. The whole system is supported and sponsored by the state government. A huge range of weather forecasting products are supplied by NWS. Along with the textual forecast products NWS also convert their products in digital format.






National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA):

NOAA is one of the world's leading weather services. It is basically a scientific agency operated by the United States Department of Commerce. NOAA mainly emphasizes on the conditions of ocean and atmosphere.
