A Waterspout is a tornado passing over a water body and picking up a column of water upwards. It is one of the less strong Weather-related disasters but harmful nonetheless for the nearby agricultural land. This is because the waterspout normally ends by dropping a part of the marine life it picked up. This might harm the adjacent vegetation.
Waterspouts have a counterpart by the name of landspouts. The landspouts are however not as powerful as the other. To avoid being hit by Waterspout the marine transportation system follows a warning system.
Causes of Waterspout
Waterspouts are common phenomenon in the moisture laden regions and are less harmful than the tornadoes, which occur near the land. The area that they cover is very less, at times lesser than 2 kilometers. They are intensified with the presence of vertical air near the water body and also the land and sea breeze. Waterspout can be of two types, the nontornadic type and the tornadic type. Waterspouts are formed mainly by the cumulous clouds, which grow very swiftly over a water body. Waterspout is commonly found in regions where there are low pressure areas and the water columns can be easily picked up.
Effects of Waterspout
The most devastating effect of Waterspout is felt by the marine life and also the water transportation. The stronger waterspouts have the capacity to displace the marine population from one place to another. At times this is done to the nearby land, where it loses its original force. This becomes harmful for the marine population.
