The most important thing to do while planning on Avalanche Safety is to have a clear picture of it so that you can avoid avalanche terrains. Avalanche Safety mainly involves being prepared and protected against avalanches especially when you are planning to spend some time skiing and mountaineering in the snowy mountain slopes.

Preparation is the most important thing. So you should listen to the avalanche warnings which are given in all the mountainous regions. You have to make sure that when you are in such a place you are well connected with others through properly working transceivers. When you are planning the path you will follow make sure that the route is surrounded with trees, which can resist the avalanches. The escape routes should be planned beforehand so that you know which route to take in an emergency.

Saving your life from an Avalanche

In spite of all the precautions you take if you face an avalanche on your trip then you can follow some steps to come out of it. The most important thing is to keep your head cool and decide quickly because everything depends on that.

Some of the Avalanche Safety tips are as follows:

  • If you are using a sled then stay away from it as there are chances that you will get hurt by it. Next, you should always try to stay on the surface by using the motion of swimming and try to get on the side of the avalanche and try to get hold of trees or something you can hold on to. Don't let any snow get inside your mouth by clenching your teeth together.







  • If you see that the avalanche is slowing down then you can try to push yourself towards the surface so that you can breathe. For that you can make an air pocket with one arm on your face and make space with the other.
  • If you are unable to come out of the snow covering then try and remain calm and relax your breathing and shout for help when a searcher is near.





These were some of the Avalanche Safety measures, which are advised to the skiers and mountaineers. Apart from these areas which strive on the tourist crowd and are prone to avalanches sometimes use blasts to stop the avalanche from gathering more mass.
