Winds

Introduction:

Winds, which are in fact the various types of movements of the air, play a very important role in the nature. Wind is a very important weather phenomenon . The science of winds tells that winds are formed due to the irregular heating on the various atmospheric surfaces of the earth. Firstly the land of earth becomes hot due to the heat of the sun. Then the air touching the earth surface gets heated and becomes lighter in weight. This light air goes up and the colder air fills up the lower area. This is how the movement of the air starts and wind is formed.

  • High Pressure:

An area is called high-pressure area when the atmospheric of that particular area gets higher than the other areas surrounding the particular point. High pressure is related to hot winds. Warm winds are lighter than the cold winds.

  • Low Pressure:

Low pressure is just the opposite of high pressure. In this case the atmospheric pressure becomes very low in a particular place compared to the surrounding area. This area is called low-pressure area. Low pressure has various types of the characteristics such as Tropical storms, sub polar cyclones, extra tropical cyclones, sub arctic cyclones and so on.

  • Various Types of Winds:
Winds may of different types such as synoptic winds, geostrophic wind, prevailing winds, gradient wind, microscale winds, mesoscale winds, cyclostrophic wind and so on. All these types of winds have their individual characteristics. Storm is also a variety of wind. When the movement of the air become very fast, it turns up into storm.
