Formation of Breeze
A breeze is generated by pressure differences that can range from a few hundreds to thousands of kilometers. This scale is known as the synoptic scale. The temperature differences are on a smaller scale.
Types of Breeze
Breeze can be different types like
- Sea Breeze and Land Breeze : These breezes are also called on-shore and off-shore winds. During the day the land get heated faster than water as it absorbs more heat. The warm air over the land rises and the cooler air of the sea rushes in to take its place. This is known as sea breeze and it takes place in mid morning. At night the opposite happens when the breeze from the land blows towards the sea. This is called the land breeze .
- Lake Breeze : This breeze is found around the Great Lakes region or similar lakes that are very large. This is a special kind of breeze which forms during late spring time and in summer when there is a rise in temperature. Kabatic Breeze : It is also known as Drainage flow wind. It is formed when the cool air around mountain tops sink to the valleys and warmer air is displaced upwards. The breeze that moves upslope is called Valley Breeze . In the afternoons the vice versa happens and it is called the Mountain Breeze .
