El Nino

El Nino is one of the Severe Weather Conditions that occur in different places depending on the climactic conditions of the particular place. El Nino is in fact a very dangerous occurrence that happens in the oceans. During El Nino, the surface of the ocean gets extremely heated up. It generally happens in the eastern areas of the tropical Pacific regions. El Nino is a part of the Southern Oscillation too. Not only the Pacific Ocean, but also the Atlantic and Indian Oceans are affected by the violence of El Nino or the Southern Oscillation.

  • The causes of El Nino:

The severe phenomenon of El Nino occurs due to a major fluctuation of temperature in the surface of waters of the oceans, especially the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The Spanish word “ El Nino” literally means “The Child”. The name signifies Christ as a child. This is because that the dangerous phenomenon of El Nino usually occurs during the time of Christmas. The natural phenomenon affects mostly the western regions of the South America.

El Nino has some similarities with La Niña. This is also a similar type of natural phenomenon. Here the word “La Niña” signifies “the little girl”. Both these oceanic weather conditions affect the human lives greatly.

•  The Horrors of El Nino:

El Nino Southern Oscillation affects mainly the developing countries such as Africa, South America and so on. All these nations greatly depend on the agriculture and piscary or fishery. So the after effects of El Nino cause great harm to the economy of these countries.
