Weather stations are the foundations from where all kind of weather observations are made using several weather instruments and equipments. These observations are made by following and monitoring atmospheric conditions. Weather can be described as the atmospheric state of a particular place at a given time, depending on the variables like temperature, velocity of wind, moisture and barometric pressure. Through Weather stations these weather conditions are analyzed and forecasted. The science of weather is termed as Meteorology and the concerned persons are called Meteorologists. The core function of meteorologists is to forecast weather conditions with the help of all weather instruments available at the weather stations.
There are some basic weather instruments that are necessary in every weather station.
- Thermometer
A typical instrument that is used for measuring temperature is known as thermometer. There are several types of thermometers such as Alcohol Thermometer, Galileo Thermometer, Liquid Crystal Thermometer, etc.
- Hygrometer
Hygrometer is an instrument that is used for measuring humidity that is the moisture content of air.
- Barometer
The basic equipment required for measuring atmospheric pressure is the barometer. There are three types of barometers; Water-based Barometer, Mercury Barometers and Aneroid Barometers.
- Anemometer
For measuring wind velocity and pressure anemometers are used. Anemometers are categorized as Velocity Anemometers and Pressure Anemometers.
- Rain gauge
Rain gauge is the instrument used for measuring the amount of rainfall.
- Wind vane
Wind vane is a flexible device that indicates the direction of wind. It is mostly attached to roofs and other elevated objects.
Weather stations are the foundations from where all weather information are predicted according to which precautionary measures are taken.
