Nimbostratus is a dense layer of cloud belonging to the low altitude, lying below 8000 ft (2400 m). Nimbostratus clouds obstruct sunlight and are known for its gray appearance. These clouds originate due to warm weather conditions.

While, cumulonimbus clouds are usually tall clouds which bring all thunderstorms and other intense weather conditions with it. These clouds form varied shapes starting from forming in clusters or staying in single compact mass. Cumulonimbus clouds are originated from cumulus clouds which can take the shape of a super cell or a severe thunderstorm.
