Pictbridge

To allow the images to be transferred directly from the memory card of a camera to a printer a standardised technology is adopted which is known as Pictbridge. Pictbridge is an industry standard from the Camera & Imaging Product Association (CIPA) for direct photo printing. Pictbridge does not require any computer.

It is not always possible top carry your personal computer everywhere. This is where Pictbridge plays an important role and enables hassle free quick transfer of images from your camera to the printer. Pictbridge must have a USB terminus corresponding and befitting the printer's USB port.

Pictbridge is also being considered for other applications in addition to printing from digital cameras. The current version of Pictbridge is called ''CIPA DC-00I-2003” which allows you to develop a Pictbridge enabled product. The logo for the device was about to be finalized by April 2003. It is also possible to expand Pictbridge to other interfaces beyond USB in the future.
