Panoramic Photography
Panoramic Photography is the style where the images produced have a wide field of view. A panoramic photography is said to have a view wider than human eye can capture. A panoramic photograph is expected to present such a wide field of view without overlooking the details of the area captured. A panoramic photograph need not be as per the definition of “Panorama” but the viewer should get a complete view of the area photographed.
In the olden days, the photographers used to place many photographs together to get a panoramic image. This technique was first used by George Bernard in the American Civil War in 1860.
A camera is specially equipped to get a panoramic picture. A camera need to have a Swing lens, that is the lens should rotate from the rear nodal point of the camera to the curved film plane. The Rotating Panoramic Cameras are also used for taking panoramic photographs, this camera is equipped with the mechanism of rotating the whole camera at 360o.
The film is pulled in the process of the rotation of the camera. Fixed lens camera are also used in Panoramic photography. These cameras are used in architectural panoramic photography.
Another form of panoramic photography is the segmented panoramas, where multiple photos are joined with overlapping fields to create a panoramic image.
